We are growing the Data Science team to better identify the needs of our existing and potential users and to help increase the number of people who will turn to our services to protect their privacy. Thus, we are looking for experienced Systems Engineers to help us build systems so that we can quantify metrics and optimize our service.

As a member of Proton's Data Science team, you will support our developers with systems engineering and integrating data science tools into our services and applications. You will work on both our user-facing apps and our open source network and server infrastructure. Additionally, you will take a lead role in optimizing and designing our Apache Spark cluster, as well as all the other elements of our data platform.

You should have demonstrable knowledge of Linux and network services. You should also enjoy building scalable and highly available systems, taking ownership and responsibility for services and projects, and working in close collaboration with multiple teams.

What You will do:

  • Install and configure systems and services using automation tools such as Puppet and Ansible.
  • Maintain, tune, and optimize our data processing infrastructure, including
  • Apache Spark cluster, Clickhouse cluster, Redis, Kafka, MySQL, and Tableau.
  • Collaborate with the data engineering team to design architecture needed to integrate new technologies into the data platform and to redesign existing ones.
  • Build and improve monitoring for services and applications.
  • Occasionally cover shifts to ensure our 24/7 operations.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline: statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, etc.
  • Two or more years of experience in IT with automation/DevOps background.
  • Solid knowledge of Linux, networking, and security.
  • Proven experience with configuration management and automation (Puppet or Ansible).
  • Extensive experience with code development in Python and with version control tools.
  • Hands-on experience with at least three of the following technologies: Apache Spark, distributed database clusters, Redis, Kafka, Tableau

     Knowledge in the following areas is considered a plus:

    • Monitoring systems (Icinga2, Prometheus, Grafana)
    • Virtualization and container technologies (KVM, Vagrant, Docker, Docker compose, Kubernetes)
