Purpose of the role

As a C++ engineer at Proton, you will be responsible for developing desktop applications to further enable our suite of encrypted Mail, Calendar, Drive, and VPN products. You and your team will have direct responsibility for launching new applications and services that enable our customers to communicate privately and securely online. You will deploy rapid prototypes, gather customer feedback, and scale your services to reach millions of Proton customers worldwide. As a founding engineer for a new team, you will help set the technical foundation at its earliest stages, and make continuous investments in developer productivity and code quality while ensuring fast feature delivery. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering.

What you will do

  • Be part of a new engineering team to design, build, test, and operate new desktop applications
  • Rapidly prototype and deploy features to gather customer feedback and establish product-market fit
  • Write and operate scalable, tested, and well-documented code as you productionalize your systems
  • Refine our CI/CD and pipelines to improve lead times and developer efficiency
  • Promote engineering best practices

Job requirements

  • 10+ years experience with object-oriented compiled languages, such as C++, C#, Golang, or Rust
  • Expert proficiency in C++
  • Demonstrable experience developing, testing, and supporting native desktop applications
  • An understanding of the principles of UI design and user experience
  • Experience with DevOps principles and practices
