About the position:

As a leader within the ProtonMail team, you will be responsible for managing a team of Android engineers that designs, builds, and maintains our flagship native app for Android. Your team will have direct responsibility for launching critical new features that enable our customers to communicate privately and securely by encrypted email. As a member of the ProtonMail leadership team you will advocate for making continuous investments in developer productivity and code quality while ensuring fast feature delivery. You will report directly to the Head of Engineering for ProtonMail.

You will:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop strategy for your team
  • Lead and participate in technical design and product discussions
  • Hire, develop, and coach engineers, and help them learn and grow to achieve their goals
  • Hold yourself and your team accountable to high engineering standards
  • Guide your team to continuously improve our systems towards greater observability and resiliency
  • Develop efficient processes, instill a sense of urgency, and motivate your team to operate with high velocity, ownership, and accountability
  • Design products, systems, and services that solve your customers' problems
  • Foster an inclusive environment for your team to show up and give their best each day
  • Contribute to Proton's broader technology and open source communities

Job requirements

You have:

  • 8+ years of software development or equivalent experience, including 5+ years developing with Android
  • 2+ years directly managing engineers
  • A history of collaboration with product, product marketing, design, and analytics on developing product roadmaps
  • Experience creating well-crafted, maintainable code
  • Eagerness to share your ideas, and openness to those of others
  • Knowledge of latest trends and libraries in the Android ecosystem
